Diversity
To improve the learning of all students, teachers differentiate instruction in ways that exhibit a deep understanding of how cultural, ethnic, and social background; second language learning; special needs; exceptionalities; and learning styles affect student motivation, cognitive processing, and academic performance.
Rationale: This category means that teachers will take the initiative to educate themselves on how different cultures, disabilities, languages, etc. contribute to a student’s academic experience. In the classroom, we encounter children who come from different backgrounds and experiences than our very own, so it is important that we value those things within our classroom. This category will be evident in the following assignments because they incorporate accommodations for students who speak a different language or have a disability. They also promote inclusion and encourage the participation of all students. This category will be evident in my future classroom because I am a black educator who believes no child should ever feel excluded while being in my classroom. I support the idea of being kind and tolerate to all.
These assignments revolved around inclusion of students from different backgrounds, socioeconomic status, etc. My teacher really wanted these reflections to be personal and showcase how our mindsets evolved throughout the course.
