Teaching and Learning
To increase the achievement of every student, teachers draw upon a thorough understanding of learning and development; recognize the role of families in supporting learning; design a student-centered learning environment; and use research-based instructional and assessment strategies that motivate, engage, and maximize the learning of all students.
Rationale: This category means that a teacher’s overall goal should be to see their students succeed. In response to that, it is extremely important for students to have a support system within the classroom and at home. A child’s entire learning experience plays a tremendous role in how the view school. It also determines how they will succeed beyond the classroom. This category will be evident in the following assignments because they encourage an interactive classroom environment the promotes student success and showcases the important steps taken by myself and other educators to insure productivity. This category will be evident in my future classroom because I believe it is important to celebrate all students’ success and create environment where they feel like they are valued.
Both lessons show why it is important to create lessons that will encourage students to interact. The integrated unit plan focused on the different world climates and how they are different from one another. Students were required to complete different activities and a project to showcase what they are learning during the week. The music lesson also encouraged students to work with their peers and even allowed them to independently play their ukuleles as a way to assess their knowledge.
